Gothic Candy Hearts

2026

Artist Statement

Made for Valentines day 2026, these candy hearts feature phrases that allude to the more gothic nature of love.

“SKMALUBBD”, meaning, “So kiss me and let us both be dammed”, from Emerald Fennel’s adaptation of wuthering heights. Let it be known this artist agrees with the discourse surrounding the casting of this.

“A leaf? For me?”, iconically stated by Mia Goth in Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein.

“I Burn 4 U”, taken from Bridgerton season 1.

The final candy heart features a reference to the phrase “to love me is to suffer me”, sung by Ethel Cain in her song “Nettles”.

Currently, there are two more editions planned for this series; my goal is to utilize the color palette so that each color has one heart and one background.
